Mary Ann Pleva's Page

Mrs. Mary Ann Pleva has worked as a special education teacher at the Learning Express Preschool since1992.  January 2020 marks her 28th year employed by the Altoona Area School District.  
Mrs. Pleva graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1987 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Speech Pathology/Audiology.  
She also acquired a Masters of Education degree from IUP in Early Childhood Education in 1994, and certification in Special Education in 2003. 
Mrs. Pleva taught first at the Curtin building, and then at Ebner Elementary School from 2003 to 2011, teaching in PATTAN's Autism Initiative Preschool Classroom.  
She returned to the Curtin building in the fall of 2011, teaching students with and without special needs and has been teaching at that location until the program was moved to the Washington and Jefferson building in 2013. 
Currently,  she is the data manager for the preschool program, PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Supports) program-wide facilitator, and PBIS classroom coach.  She is also the internal coach for the Autism Initiative classroom at LEX.
Mrs. Pleva has also recently obtained a certificate in special education supervision at St. Francis University in Loretto. 
Mrs. Pleva has been married to her husband for 25 years,  and has three adult children who are all pursuing degrees in higher education.  
She enjoys spending time with her family and two dogs, Rocco and Buddy.
